Jen Kogan, LICSW

Welcome! For over 30 years, I’ve supported individuals, couples, and families through life’s many changes and challenges. My online practice draws from compassion-focused therapy, self-compassion training, and other evidence-based approaches. Whether you’re facing a major transition, feeling overwhelmed, or seeking greater clarity, I offer a calm, compassionate presence to help you understand what’s happening and find a way forward.

A Compassionate and Affirming Space

As we work together, I will meet you where you are with presence and care. Everyone has their own way of thinking, feeling, and moving through the world. I believe we’re all doing the best we can, and that sometimes we just need a little help.

My Approach

Because each person and relationship is different, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Instead, I draw from several approaches depending on what you need.

  • Compassion-Focused therapy
  • Family Systems therapy
  • Gottman Method therapy (Level 3)
  • Self-Compassion Practice

Why Self-Compassion Matters

Self-compassion means treating yourself the way you would treat a loved one or a good friend.

Research shows that self-compassion can:

  • Improve mood and emotional well-being

  • Reduce anxiety, shame, stress, and depression

  • Boost resilience, motivation, and connection

Over time, engaging in self-compassion can create more space for healing, growth, and joy.

Writing, Community, and Advocacy

Alongside my private practice, I work as a writer, editor, advocate and community builder. I co-founded the Jewish Social Work Consortium, a group of clinicians, academics, educators, writers, and advocates all committed to upholding the foundational values of our profession. We work to uphold ethical care for Jewish mental health clinicians and clients. Additionally, I partner with also co-founder of Ethically Grounded and the Levari Initiative

Let’s Connect
