Are you feeling stressed, anxious, lonely or sad? My private practice offers compassion-focused, individual counseling and consultation via teletherapy. Our work together can help you connect more effectively to you and with who and what you care about most.
During these challenging times, we are all spending more time on our own, but we are also often expected to juggle even more. Whether it is family, relationships, work or school pressures we can all feel stressed to do more with less and less time. Learn how to take a breath and stay in the daily moments of life despite the prevailing ‘push through’ mentality.
It was psychologist Kristin Neff who spearheaded research that found, “people who are more self-compassionate lead healthier and more productive lives than those who are self-critical…Many people believe that they need to be self-critical to motivate themselves, but in fact they just end up feeling anxious, incompetent and depressed.” In fact, Dr. Neff’s findings demonstrated that people who are kinder to themselves actually perform better than those who are not.
Anchoring yourself in who you are and what you care about and fostering connection in your life helps you deeply know and take care of yourself.
In her book, “The Gifts of Imperfection,” Brené Brown, a writer and research professor did an about-face when she discovered through her research that, “knowledge is important but only if we are being kind and gentle with ourselves as we work to discover who we are.” This finding caused Brown to rethink her life and her priorities. A glimpse at the chapter headings in her book can give you a sense of what she now values most: Authenticity, letting go, play and rest, calm and stillness, meaningful work, and creativity.
